Ill health retirement
Please note: we cannot provide estimates or confirm retirement on grounds of ill health retirement to you directly. For any of the reasons below. All requests must come from your employer.
If your health deteriorates to such an extent that you are unable to do your job and would not be able to work in any job, you may be able to take ill health retirement. The pension would be due without a reduction and, depending on whether you would be able to work again before normal pension age, may be enhanced.
Your employer (or former employer, if you have a deferred benefit) will have to decide if a pension is payable on grounds of ill health after you have been assessed by an independent registered medical practitioner, who is approved by us.
